Al-Quds University celebrated the Thirty-Forth graduation Ceremony for the academic year 2014-2015 in the presence of the President of the Board of Trustees Mr. Ahmed Qurei, the President of Al-Quds University Prof. Imad Abu Kishik, members of the Board of Trustees, the Vice-Presidents, the faculty, and hundreds of families of the graduates.
Mr. Ahmed Qurei stressed that Al-Quds University has become a landmark of the Holy City, and a pillar of the Arab and Islamic identity. Mr. Qurei called on everyone to rise and defend the Arab identity of Jerusalem and protect it from Judaization schemes, and prevent attempts to isolate it and change its Arab and Islamic character, in order to rebuild the country and achieve independence.
Prof. Imad Abu Kishik, President of Al-Quds University,congratulated the graduates and said: "We meet today to graduate the Thirty-Fourth graduate class of this honored University. Al-Quds University is a scientifically, academically and nationally leading institution, with deeply ingrained roots in the heart of Jerusalem. Al-Quds University protects Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, it maintains Jerusalem and strengthens the steadfastness of its people in the face of all attempts at obliteration, Judaization, confiscation and uprooting. In this manner the university preserves the national identity of Palestine".
Prof. Abu Kishik added that "Al-Quds University was founded two decades ago as the only Palestinian University in Jerusalem, and upon the vision that only an educated and enlightened citizenry can safeguard the future of our nation. Indeed education has been the key to our perseverance as a people struggling for freedom and self-determination. Today as one of the top universities in Palestine we are able to boast 15 faculties and 29 institutes and centers, among them the first Medical School in Palestine, the first Research Center for Nanotechnology, the Institute of Jerusalem Studies that offers a unique MA on the ancient city and the innovative Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences, which combines the best of American and Palestinian academic traditions".
"Freedom of thought goes hand in hand with freedom of expression and one cannot flourish without the other. We encourage our students to express their views and to create debate on issues that are important to them. We are ever cognizant to provide them with a firm grounding in the rights and duties of any citizenry–respect for laws and regulations, the sanctity of the individual, and most importantly the limits of freedom". This is how Prof. Abu Kishik addressed his words to the graduates.
Prof. Abu Kishik concluded by saying "There is no doubt the future will present us with new and difficult challenges, but I am confident that we will rise to meet them. I have the utmost faith in the faculty, staff and students. I look forward to working with all members of our university to reach our goals of excellence in education and the true realization of freedom".
Prof. Abu Kishik also mentioned that three students,currently imprisoned in Israel prisoners, have completed their Master’s thesis in regional studies, and eight prisoners have completed their bachelor’s in political science from the Faculty of Arts.
Dania Khatib, a graduate from the Faculty of Dentistry, gave the graduation speech and confirmed that the responsibility of the graduates are greater after graduation, and said "We are gathered today to build the future with the experience we have gained from our great University, the University of the Capital.
At the end of the ceremony the University honored its outstanding students, followed by all students in the faculties of medicine, dentistry, engineering, science and technology, health professions and pharmacy.
Thus, Al-Quds University launched a new group of graduate students into the world.
