Al-Quds University launched the Al-Quds University Endowment for Education in a pioneering step to enhance the sustainability of higher education, support students’ academic and research careers, and serve and advance Palestinian society. The university also honored outstanding preparatory year students.
This event occurred during a ceremony held by the university in the presence of its president, Prof. Imad Abu Kishk, as well as national, Jerusalemite, and Palestinian figures.
“On this occasion”, Prof. Abu Kishk said, ‘We gather today to announce the launch of the Al-Quds University Endowment for Education. This initiative, which we have been developing in collaboration with our colleagues in the ’48 territories, aims to establish an endowment to sponsor students at Al-Quds University. The endowment’s primary objective is to ensure that these students have the opportunity to complete their university education.”
He emphasized that this endowment signifies an investment in the future of Palestinian young people, with the objective of cultivating a generation of Palestinians who are educated and equipped to serve their homeland, thereby contributing constructively to the process of development and economic advancement.
Prof. Abu Kishk spoke about the prestigious standing of Al-Quds University in global university rankings, being the top university in Palestine and ranked 52nd in the Arab world. He went on to express his aspiration for the university to be among the top ten Arab universities in those rankings, through diligent work with its local and international partnerships.
Prof. Abu Kishk also expressed his profound pride in the preparatory year students who demonstrated exceptional performance in their respective exams, stating, “You, as the future generation, are the ones who will shape the future. Live up to that responsibility.”
Dr. Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, the Preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Authority, spoke through a recorded message in which he expounded on the significance of the Waqf in Islam and its function in fostering communal solidarity. He praised the efforts of Al-Quds University in launching the education endowment and articulated his aspiration that the radiance of this endowment would illuminate Al-Quds University.
Mr. Talab Abu Arar, Vice President of the Qatar Committee of Arab Local Authorities and Chairman of the Ar’ara Council in the Negev, stated that their presence at Al-Quds University attests to its distinguished scientific stature and affirms its great institution, and its fountain of knowledge. He further noted that scientific advancement is pivotal for the progress of nations, and Al-Quds University has consistently left an indelible mark in various scientific and creative fields. Mr. Abu Arar extended his congratulations to the university on the occasion of the announcement of the endowment.
Sheikh Dr. Najeh Bkeirat spoke on behalf of the endowment, underscoring the significance of the Al-Quds University Endowment for Education, which was designed to be self-sustaining and autonomous. He also expressed his pride in the esteemed students, stating that the endowment was established with their future in mind.
The ceremony included a presentation of a video report about Al-Quds University Endowment for Education project, its details, and future goals. Concluding the event, the university president formally launched the endowment by signing the official document. Subsequently, with esteemed figures, he honored the top-performing students.
