Clinical Dentistry Residency in Endodontics
The purpose of Clinical Dentistry Residency in Endodontics is to provide the residents with advanced training in all aspects of Endodontics. The program is designed to fulfill the requirements of Palestinian Medical Council to enable the candidates to be eligible for examination by the Palestinian Board of Endodontics Committee.
The program is structured to provide an education of taught courses and training for dentists who are keen on holding the Palestinian Medical Council Certificate in Endodontics.
The program has been designed to satisfy the needs of those who acquire greater skills, knowledge, and experience in Endodontics. The program includes participation in formal lectures, seminars, pursuit of Endodontic oriented research, assistance in undergraduate teaching of Endodontics, and treatment of patients in Endodontic clinics.
The residency program in Endodontics consists of three consecutive years based on a full-time attendance program, it incorporates pre-clinical and clinical training at the level of specialist trainee in endodontics, in addition to an appropriate preparation for the enrollment of the candidates to sit for the Palestinian Board certificate (equivalent to a PhD in Medical Sciences) upon successful completion of all the needed requirements.
phase one consists of a pre-clinical and laboratory teaching element, in conjunction with basic medical sciences and relevant dental sciences (about 4 – 6 months duration).
Phase two is built up upon, clinical tutorials seminars, self-directed learning, supervised clinical treatment of patients under staff supervision and attendance for case presentation seminars for the new and follow up patients.
Assessment through in the three years is conducted through written, oral and practical examinations, in addition to clinical – laboratory work-based assessments, case presentations, and patient logbooks. Assessments are held once per semester.
The Endodontist is the suitable member of the dental team to restore badly destructed teeth and preserve the dental arch integrity. The scope of treatment required for the patients will range from simple procedures to complex surgical and conventional therapies. The candidate in this program will fulfill the following aspects:
- Understanding of basic dental sciences.
- Sufficient knowledge of recent literature.
- Rapport and proper patent- dentist communication skills
- Effective utilization of dental auxiliaries to provide proper time management techniques.
- Mastering an appropriate range of manual, rotary and microscopic professional skills, using appropriate technological means to serve professional practice in endodontics.
At the end of this program, the candidate resident will:
- Be able to be competent in all aspects of clinical advanced Endodontics and has the knowledge to execute complicated Endodontic treatments.
- Will have the basis for scientific evidence- based inquiry, critical thinking and problem solving.
- Bridge the gap between Evidence Based Practice and Clinical Practice in Endodontics.
- Be able to have an advanced level of clinical knowledge and skills of Endodontics.
- Have sufficient knowledge and clinical experiences to become proficient in diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment sequencing for complicated cases of Endodontic cases.
- Learn the principles of research methodology, design, research protocol development, biostatistics, and data analysis.
- Be able to be eligible for the Palestinian Medical Council Certificate Examinations.
