Al-Quds University has signed a cooperation agreement with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), Kids Operating Room (Kids OR), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and The Arab and international Organization to Construct in Palestine, with the aim of establishing three modern mobile hospitals in the Gaza Strip. These hospitals are intended to address the emergency health needs of sick and injured children and women.
The project was initiated in the presence of several businessmen, led by Mr. Muneeb Rashid Al-Masri, who commended the project and its significance during this critical moment in time. Al-Masri also announced his personal donation of one million dollars representing his family’s contribution. He further encouraged the audience to contribute with the necessary donations to achieve the project’s goal of establishing the first hospital. In addition, HRH Prince Turki Al-Faisal announced that he will donate $2 million through Al-Quds Endowment Fund, while businessman Mr. Samir Abdul Hadi and Dr. Omar Hadi has committed to donations that will be disclosed at a later date, in addition to a number of other businessmen committing to contribute to the project.
Professor Dr. Imad Abu Kishek delivered remarks on the significance of the project and its urgent necessity in Gaza, lauding the role of the partners in ensuring the success of this humanitarian initiative. He further emphasized the pivotal role that Makassed Hospital will play in the project’s success, citing the hospital’s historical contributions to the healthcare of the Gaza community.
The Secretary General of the Hashemite Charity Commission, Dr. Hussein Shibli, expounded on the significance of the project, drawing upon the Commission’s extensive history of humanitarian endeavors in Gaza.
The Chief Executive Officer of Kids OR, Mr. David Cunningham, delivered a presentation on the features and importance of the project. He referred to the organization’s experience in establishing hospitals in war zones around the world, explained the advantages of the project in Gaza, and provided technical and financial briefings for the project by Kids OR.
UNDP representatives also spoke about their contribution to the project and their willingness to provide full logistical support for the operation of the hospital in Gaza.
The project stands as a testament to the productive collaboration between Palestinian civil society organizations and effective Arab and international institutions, with the overarching objective being to effect a substantial improvement in the lives of Gazans and to address their pressing health requirements.
