Al-Quds University has launched the first English edition of Al-Maqdisiyah, its peer-reviewed quarterly journal. This edition features a selection of studies and articles from issues 21–24. This is a pioneering step to amplify the voice of Jerusalem, highlighting its issues and the struggles of its residents amidst threats to the Palestinian identity, history, and presence in the city.

The publication of Al-Maqdisiyah started in 2019 by the Jerusalem Studies Center located in Khan Tankiz at the Qattanin Market in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Saeed Abu Ali, Managing Editor Dr. Walid Salem, and Editorial Secretary Mr. Aziz Al-Asa. Its advisory board includes Al-Quds University President Prof. Imad Abu Kishek, business and religious figures from the city, as well as researchers, journalists, and writers on its editorial board. The journal is distributed in Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon.
Prof. Imad Abu Kishek commended this translation as a significant step in bringing Al-Maqdisiyah and its representation of Jerusalem to a global audience. This allows the world to learn about the city’s challenges, threats to its identity and history, and the threatening changes affecting the Palestinian cause, particularly those impacting Jerusalem. He emphasized that this step is essential for drawing attention to the city, a cornerstone of the national cause and a symbol of peace, religious unity, and cultural diversity throughout history.
Integration of Al-Maqdisiyah into Arab League Publications
An agreement was recently signed with the Arab League, on the sidelines of the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, to include Al-Maqdisiyah in its publications and distribute it electronically through its platforms and in print through member state missions and embassies in Egypt and international organizations. Copies will also be provided to global diplomatic missions to disseminate across countries and among Arab ambassadors worldwide.
The journal’s management described this as a major milestone in distribution and outreach while maintaining Al-Quds University’s intellectual ownership of the publication. This step is vital in defending Jerusalem by adopting the university’s stance and the content of its specialized journal, which upholds its central slogan, “Jerusalem Unites, Not Divides.” The journal prioritizes the defense of Jerusalem’s identity and the resilience of its people.
