Al-Quds University has always made significant contributions to research in many fields. Research in the Law Department is no exception. Senior legal researchers Dr Mohammad Fahad Shalaldeh and Dr Mohammed al-Haj Qassem recently published a paper entitled "Protection of Cultural Property in Palestine, in accordance with the Hague Convention of 1954 and its Protocols.”
The research was published in the Journal of Political and Legal Science, Scientific Journal (issue 9, 2015).
This research has led to some highly significant results. One result in particular, found that the Hague Convention approved protocol of the Protection of Cultural Property in Palestine and of international legal norms.
The study also concluded that by joining UNESCO, Palestine should regain its international legal position in accordance with the principles and rules of international law. This puts the United Nations and UNESCO under international pressure to protect and maintain Palestinian cultural property.
